Pros/Cons for DSi. Why We’re Not Sure If You Should Get One…

This question has been bothering the crap out of me, so I’ve decided to make a Pros/Cons list for the new DSi that is releasing in a few weeks.

DSi
Pros

  • Smaller system – 2.6mm thick
  • Bigger Screen – 3.25 inches
  • Improved Speakers – Meh, normally I have my speakers off anyways.
  • Web Browser – Runs faster than DSLite Hardware Browser
  • Music Player – Supports .aac files
  • “Virtual Console” support
  • Two (2) Cameras – 0.3 megapixel VGA cameras. One on the inside, one on the outside.
  • Five Brightness Settings – DS Lite has four
  • 16mb of RAM

Cons

  • Loss of Gameboy Advance Slot
  • Shorter Battery Life – 9-14 hours in comparison to DSLite’s 15-19 hours.
  • Price – $179.99
  • Loss of compatibility for items that require GBA slot – Guitar Hero, Rumblepack, etc.
  • Slightly Longer

Not too bad for cons, although that price is killing me. Do I really need to spend $180 for a lot of gimmicky stuff that I already have with my other gadgets? I guess I don’t see what the 2 million people in Japan see.

Nintendo DSi to include Virtual Console

dsi1_scI’m not too interested in spending an extra $170 to get a new handheld system. I think my regular DSLite works just fine, but an article on [kimbo.com] has gotten me pretty interested in what this baby can do.

According to Kombo, there will be three levels of costs. Free, 200 points, 500 points and 800+ points and with the huge library of handheld Nintendo games, there’s no doubt that we’ll see some quality stuff coming out at launch. Maybe some Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, perhaps?
